When to refer patients

Second Medical consults on a variety of different conditions, both urgent and non-urgent. Cases commonly referred to Second Medical include:

• Orthopaedics / Rheumatology
• Neurology / Neurosurgery
• Hematology / Oncology
• Cardiology / Cardiovascular surgery

The only qualification is that you need to have already seen a medical specialist for your condition, as our role is to provide you with a focused second opinion based on your initial specialist opinion.

The goal of the second opinion is to answer a specific question, such as does my patient need surgery, or is this the best treatment for my patient or is there a different medication and/or procedure that might be safer or provide better results?

At present, we only see patients who are 18 years and older. In the future, we will be addressing the pediatric population.
